MMMM... millionaire's cabbage!  It is found in coconut palms, sable palms, pretty much any palm with a thick, bushy top.

It takes alot of work to harvest, and kills the tree.  As a food source, it was popularized in Asia, anywhere jungle was cleared for construction.

You must cut ff the entire 'head' of the palm, and cut all the fronds, trying to get close to where they sprout... at the 'heart.'  Care must be taken to shave the nubs of fronds off, well below where they get 'woody,' exposing the white-green, juicy, fibrous center or 'heart' of the tree.  The flavor is very mild, and generally considered very neutral, much like watercress, in flavor and consistency, only fibrous.

A modern 'knock-off' of millionaire's cabbage can be done with a head of ordinary lettuce.  Remove the lettuce core, and shave all the hard nubbs off, until you find the juicy center (this is the same technique you use with the palm, only smaller and softer).  Slice the center into stiff, thin slices.  Add a little salt and pepper, and a dash of lemon.  For a more 'legit' Asian flavor, a little soya may be used instead of lemon, leaving off the salt, as soy sauce is plenty salty.  One of the characteristics of this kind of food is that it takes flavors very well.

Once again, actual heart of palm is called millionaire's cabbage (or salad)  because usually, only the guys in charge got to enjoy it, and the process should be reserved for trees you already plan to remove, since it kills the tree.
