  1. Australia amongst other places. The reason the processing plant will be located at the bottom of a mountain, hill or slope is that, assuming the bauxite deposits are in the mountain etc., it requires less energy to move it downhill, than it does to move it uphill.

  2. Le Baux in France. Its where they found lots of it.

  3. Bauxite producers distribution map by country http://www.mapsofworld.com/minerals/maps...

Mineral map includes bauxite (points) http://www.mapsofworld.com/images/world-...

    Compare to topo map http://woodshole.er.usgs.gov/openfile/of...

Does not look to me like bauxite comes from the bottom of mountains.

The grammar/syntax is confusing on the plant part. A mine obviously has to be where the mineral is. The processing plant can be located anywhere. Often it's close to the source to reduce transportation costs, but it can also be somewhere else if labor or energy savings are greater than transportation costs. The bottom of a mountain would make sense on the energy savings (hydroelectric). I couldn't find a good map for the processing plants, but I think there is one at the base of the Canadian Rockies.

  4. What plant are you asking about?

  5. In 2007, Australia was the top producer of bauxite with almost one-third world share, followed by China, Brazil, Guinea, and Jamaica. Although aluminium demand is rapidly increasing, known reserves are sufficient to meet the needs for a considerable length of time. Increased aluminium recycling, which has the advantage of lowering the energy costs of production, will help extend bauxite reserves. manufacture.

Bauxite is strip mined (surface mining) because it is found at the surface, with little or no overburden. Approximately 95% of the world's bauxite production is processed into aluminium. Bauxites are typically classified according to their intended commercial application: metallurgical, abrasive, cement, chemical and refractory.

Mines are located where the Bauxite is most readily available.

  6. On the island of Jamaica

  7. Badly phrased YA question number 53999393

Bauxite is processed close to the mine because of the transport costs.

  8. The refining of Bauxite into Aluminium is usually situated near cheap energy sources eg hydroelectric plants in Canada.

  9. Mines have to be located where the materials to be mined are. There is no point situating a bauxite mining pant where there is no bauxite. Other factors may be taken into consideration such as being near to a transportation route / cost of transportation, and also other materials and services that may be needed, such as water, personnel, power...

Australia apparently has 5 bauxite mines. I'm sure there will be others around the world if you want to look it up.
