Where is East York Twp. York Co.?

Question

I was looking at my Birth Certificate and it says my birth place is East York Twp York Co. It was issued in Toronto Canada. On the top of the Certificate it says Province of Ontario. So where was I born?

When I needed to get a new card at the SS they said I was not born in Toronto. I am confused!!

As far as I know--- East York, Township of York, is Toronto. I did a little search and found some other people with the same birth place and they were born at Toronto General hospital... I thought East York would be Toronto East General hospital (that's the only hospital in East York-which is Toronto!!)
