You all know he's my favorite driver, but this is a serious question I have. After seeing so much about who the greatest of all time is and who's better right now queations I would just like to know your true thoughts, without ranking him lower because you don't like him, Chad, Rick or ANYTHING HMS. Being objective, where is his place in the history of cup series drivers? Top 20, top 10 or maybe even higher? I'd put him around 10th right now, just my opinion.

  1. Goodness, that's a great question. He's going to be remembered as a legend, that's for sure. He's not done winning championships, I can see him getting 1 or 2 (possibly even 3) more. Currently, I'd say he probably sits about 11th or 12th, in my opinion. But I can see it going up before all is said and done in his career.

  2. I am not a weekly fan of his but somewhere in the top 25 (closer to 25th). There have been lots of GREAT drivers before him. He is not the first to win 2 back 2 back championships, etc. I don't want to get into all the comparisons. IF he can win a 3rd straight championship I think that leap frogs him to around the 10th place. He is still early in his career, so if he continues on his path, I think he will finish his career amongst the top 10 greatest ever but I think it is too soon to have him in the top 10 Greatest.

  3. In my mind, he'd be ranked up there very close to the top 10.  The dude has won races everywhere, always wins multiple races every season.  10 races in a single season (including 4 in a row in last year's Chase), back-to-back Cups..and I believe well on his way to a three-peat.  Him and Tony Stewart would have to be ranked one right after the other, Johnson getting the nod because he's won more races/titles here recently.

  4. WQow, somebody put on their thinking cap this morning.  I would put him in the top 20.  He is good, but there is such a long history of great drivers for different reasons.  To choose for overall all time great, would be hard to do.  There are a lot of all time greats that didn't win as much as he did, in my opinion.  I would have to include some like Kulwiki for example who didn't have a chance to win as many.  Just my opinion.

    Excellent question.  Thanx....

  5. I looked at the stats! Wins and Championships only. I would rank him 15th to 17th place right now. I would rank him and Bill Elliott very even right now! Elliott has more wins, but only one championship. Bill also came in runner-up twice early in his career by just a hand full of points! I expect that with the crew chief and equipment Jimmie has, he will be a top ten driver before he is finished!! In fact, a championship this year would move him right on up there! Just my opinion!!!

    PEACE

  6. i would think around top 15.

he is definitley my favorite driver, but i dont think he's reached the top ten quite yet. but he still has plenty of years left of his career. & if he can get 3 championships in a row, he'll be in the top 10 for sure. (which im sure he'll get that third championship!)

    =]

  7. Jimmie Johnson as an all time race car driver in Nascar for me top 15

Jimmie Johnson is in the top 5 of drivers currently active in driving for Nascar for me

    Thanks for a serious question

Congrats on the win last week!

  8. Too early to rank him. I don't know if it is him or Chad to be honest.  I don't dislike him, but my gosh if he doesn't rank right up there with Matt Kenseth for lack of personality....sheesh...

  9. right now he is tied for 17th with Mark Martin on the all time wins list.

  10. Yes Jimmie is a great driver and he is definitely in the top 15 and I am sure that he will be climbing higher as his career goes along.

  11. I agree with you. I think he is a top 15. I bet it won't take long for him to move higher.
