Okay, so my grandma is from Lithuania, but i'm not exactly sure where it is. She tells me it's by Poland, but I have no idea where that is.

Is it in Sweden?

Is it in Europe?

Is it it's own country?

Are Lithuanian people Swedish?

What type of accent do Lithuanian people have? [Swedish, british, etc.]

More information about this place would be greatly appriciated.

  1. Lithuania is a Baltic nation located on the Baltic Sea. It borders Russia to the east, the Baltic Sea to the west. Latvia to the north, and Poland to the south. It also borders Russia to the west by Kaliningrad Oblast, an exclave of Russia.  It is not Swedish, it is its own nation. Lithuanian people have Lithuanian (their language) accents when they speak English. It is considered a part of Europe. It was formerly part of the Soviet Union.

  6. Hi there:

Dont worry, don't listen to these mean people. I am glad that you are asking questions. There is nothing wrong with your question. It is good that you want to learn more.

Lithuania is in Europe. The countries next to Lithuania are Poland, Belarus, Russia and Latvia. Have a look at the map below and you will see it. Just find Poland and then look above it.

Lithuania is its own country. But it only became its own country in 1990. Before 1990 it was a part of the USSR. Lithuania was not very happy about being part of the USSR and tried many times to be free. In fact, many people died trying to get Lithuania free from the USSR. When the USSR fell apart in 1990, Lithuania finally became free.

The national language in Lithuania is Lithuanian. It is not like any other language you have heard. It is a very ancient language and quite difficult to learn. In addition, many Lithuanians still speak Russian, because the had to learn it when the USSR was in control. Some people speak English, but only because they learn it in school.

Lithuania does not really have anything to do with Sweden. The language is very different and the people are different. Sweden is a very wealthy country, and there the language is Swedish. Lithuania is not  yet rich, because when they left the USSR they were very poor. But things are getting much better in Lithuania since it earned its freedom.

The Lithuanians are lithuanian, and they mostly speak lithuanian.

That's a language. Swedish is too.

British is a nationality, not an accent.
