Just a personal observation...as I watched the news coverage of the massive flooding in the Midwest with over 100 blocks of the city of Cedar Rapids, Iowa under water, levees breaking, and the attention now turned downstream for when this massive amount of water hits the Mississippi, what amazed me is not what we saw, but what we didn't see...

1. We don't see looting.

2. We don't see street violence.

3. We don't see people sitting on their rooftops waiting for the government to come and save them.

4. We don't see people waiting on the government to do anything.

5. We don't see Hollywood organizing benefits to raise money for people to rebuild.

6. We don't see people blaming President Bush.

7. We don't see people ignoring evacuation orders.

8. We don't see people blaming a government conspiracy to blow up the levees as the reason some have not held.

9. We don't see the US Senators or the Governor of Iowa crying on TV.

  1. Jackson is too busy thinking about Obama's nuts

  2. Its because George Bush hates black people, and the midwest is mostly white.

  3. Well said.

The reason is, of course, that most Iowans are honest, self-reliant, hard-working, helpful to their neighbors and others in need, friendly, and law-abiding for the most part.

If it weren't for the weather, I'd like to live there.

  4. The thing with "causes" is that somebody has to think there is a need for attention to be brought to such "cause".  The thing with "looting" is that this is only something that people of color do because when the Caucasian persuasion takes something without permission it is called "survival".  The thing with Jessie Jackson and Al Sharpton, is that they are "men" who have their opinions and their followers and it is up to the individual as to who they follow.  Why we didn't see rural Iowa residents on their roof tops waiting for assistance, is because assistance came, right away, there was no lapse in time and no bus shifting to some vast arena for further degradation and for some their imminent demise.  So yes there is a definite contrast of the two events, and true some loud mouth politicians may have had a hand in it (how the rest of the country viewed it as well as the media), but lets not take anything away from the victims of both incidents.  Why would genocide be needed in rural Iowa?   God Bless.

  5. i think it shows the HUGE difference between urban life and the life of the people that arent all crammed together

that raises many good points about crime,i live on the out skirts of the cties, just far enuff to see farm feilds every day, 1 acre of land and all of our nieghbors know each other

not too many crimes would go unnoticed

and anyone trying to commit crimes would be seen and known, i think minneapolist and st paul should be leveled , spread out and rebuilt again

  6. Jessie Jackson has his mouth sewed shut and Al Sharpton is at the I.R.S. paying his past due taxes.

You have made a great point here and I'm with you, because I was working downtown Memphis when Dr. Martin Luther King was killed. I witnessed a lot of what you are speaking about, the riots, the thefts, the violence, and Jessie Jackson was there as well, stirring up more trouble.

But I have to say that the Mayor at the time did not treat the sanitation workers fairly, and that is what started all of the violence and the death of Dr. King.

The violence was so bad they called in the National Guard and Military Tanks were rumbling on the streets and heavy artillery.

I witnessed a march were the people would spit in the faces of the local Memphis Police Officers.

The only way I would move back there would be with a, Ak47, a 44 and a German Shepherd Dog.
