  1. island of jerba ,hammamat ,sousa ,sfax ,benzert ,tunis capital google it online ,

  2. Tunisia is in North Africa, towards the middle of the continent. Our neighbors are Algeria to the West, and Libya to the South-East. We are directly under Sardinia, Italy. Our closest neighbors are to our North-East and they are Malta and Sicily. Much of our boarder is on the Mediterranean Sea, and the city of Bizerte is not only the northern most city in Tunisia, but the northern most city for the whole continent of Africa.

The country is so full of history (has been under the rule of Phoenicians, Romans, Arabs, Berbers, Ottomans, Beys, and French; played a significant part in WWII, was the center of the ancient world with Carthage as the capitol, etc) and it has so many beautiful places to visit! It is unlike any other Arab country in that is has a lot of greenery. There are also many historical ruins in just about every part of the country you go to.

The mountain region is breathtaking! There are fantastic views and an the atmosphere is reminiscent of an old town in Switzerland. Absolutely gorgeous! The coast is marvelous. The Sea is clear and picturesque. The midland and south are terrific because they offer you the chance to peek into a forgotten society - one that holds fast to tradition. I have been all over Tunisia and have visited most cities and have loved everyone because they each have their own special charm.

Here is a short description of the most popular tourist destinations:

The Isle of Djerba is popular because of it's seclusion from the mainland, it's quiet and calm atmosphere, and the fact that one of the Star Wars set is on the island. Definitely a favorite for those who want to escape the hustle and bustle of busy life and enjoy peace, quiet, great beaches, and nature.

Hammamet & Yassmine Hammamet (same city, but divided into two parts) is popular because it is calm, quiet, yet has a great nightlife and wonderful beaches.

Sousse (a lot of people think of Port el Kantaoui) is great because it offers lovely beaches but is still very much a bustling city with lots of shopping, food, and fun. The famous authentic medina is a UNESCO site

Monastir is another popular destination because the city is very calm and quiet with gorgeous beaches, a few good restaurants, and is only 30mins from Sousse. It is particularly nice for those who want peace and quiet during the day but want to be close to good nightlife. The Ribat was used in filming Monty Pythons Life Of Brian, and the Italian Life of Christ. It is also the hometown of the first Tunisian president Habib Bourguiba.

Tunis- is the ancient ruins of the great historical city of Carthage. Tunis is also home to the North Africa American Cemetery. The medina is probably the most visited place in Tunis. It is marvelously preserved still enclosed by ramparts with gates for communication with the exterior.

Toezeur- you reach the Sahara desert. It is famous for the yellow bricks, and the palm tree forest in the middle of the desert. Parts of The English Patient was filmed here.

Some popular places to visit/take excursions to are:

Matmata- Is a UNESCO site - the houses are all underground! It is also one of the filming sites for the original Star Wars

El Jem- is the biggest and most in tact Roman coliseum in the world, and Gladiator was filmed there.

Oang Jamel- it is out in the middle of the desert, but it is here that one of the most famous Star Wars sets still stands. You can only reach this area with a 4x4 because of the washboard road, but more importantly because the winds blow the Sahara sands onto the roads and will get anything less stuck.

Kerkouane- UNESCO has placed this site on its list because it is the only Punic settlement not to have been built over by subsequent civilizations.

Kairouan- It is the most important Muslim city in North Africa. The most visited monument in Kairouan is the Great Mosque. It was first built in 670 by the famous conqueror, Okba ibn Nafaa under whom Kairouan became the capital of Arab-Muslim Ifryqia and the holy city of Islam. Kairouan is also known as the capital of carpet weaving in Tunisia.

Dougga- When archaeologists began the excavation in this town they were surprised to discover such a vast town buried under modern villages. The site contains temple and shrines, public squares, public bath and theater, private homes and funerary monuments of different rites.

Sidi Bou Said- Beautiful seaside town of white houses with blue doors and shutters. This town is situated on top of a cliff that overlooks the Bey of Tunis.
