Should a college kid live here - Parish Court - 126 - 170 Shield Road

or here -

Kirkley Lodge Park Avenue, Gosforth in New Castle.

Are their any stores that are discount like Walmart or Target?

  1. Gosforth is a nicer area than Byker but it is much more expensive. I was looking for flats in both areas, in Gosforth I would be paying £60 per week minimum whereas in Byker it can be as low as £40 per week. Saying that Byker isn't that bad, it has good transport links to the city centre and a supermarket very close by (as does Gosforth)

Target I'm guessing is a clothes shop. Unless you're good at hunting out a bargain in the charity shops you'd be better off sticking to clothes shopping in the city centre, you have much more variety and depending where you like to shop you can pick up reasonably priced items.

I had a friend who lived in Parish Court, he really enjoyed it and had no major problems with the place.

Personally I'd go with Byker but that is just me. Parish Court is a bit like Halls so you can make friends with people there and then find other accomodation after the year. I'm a fan of the Heaton area (love the place) well priced with good amenities and transport.

Oh, if it helps Byker is a bit closer to Heaton Park which is a nice place to wander and see the shoe tree.

If you want to know anything else give me a shout.

  2. Well, the Shields Road one seems to be in Byker, and Kirkley Lodge in Gosforth (which you've already identified). Gosforth is the nicer area (however Byker might be cheaper).

Kirkley Lodge in close to Wansbeck Road Metro, which you can get to Regent Centre, where there is a huge ASDA Superstore.

In Byker the main supermarket is a Morrisons at the end of the shopping street.

The People in Newcastle are really friendly, however don't be insulted if you are a girl, and you get called "man" - it's the way the geordies speak!

  3. All depends where you are from, what you are used to and what you are looking for. Byker is cheap and cheerful (and a bit rough). Gosforth is expensive with middle class pretensions. Both have good transport connections to city centre. If you like deli style food, choose Gosforth. If you like cheap food, choose Byker. No Walmarts but Newcastle has wide choice of stores. Royal Quays Outlet Centre (easily accessible by public transport) has wide range of discounted brand items.

  4. there are loads of student accommodations why don't u try quay point/knoll ct/glenmarra hse/Melbourne ct/coach lane campus/henderson hall could go on and on  loads of accommodations to chose from or even house share in jesmond/ heaton etc lots of options open to u and yes like others have said morrinsons in byker or fenham or adsa in gosforth or benton depends where u stop
