  1. I guess it depends on what type of style you are looking for...I have been deep in the dance scene for years and when I moved to the Walnut Creek area I was sorely disappointed and didn't last long living there.  Here is what I discovered before giving up and heading to either the Oakland/Berkeley area or all the way to the city when I need to dance:

Walnut Creek *sucks* for dancers...there is some (what I call a dive) bar with a dance floor that is barely bigger than my kitchen and I don't have a big kitchen at all.  It gets pretty packed around the weekend, but that's just because it's so small and there is NOWHERE else to go.  The employees are rude and they have a dress code that would make you think you were headed in to some posh club in the city.  The name of the place sounds like a radio station and is four letters that starts with a W (LPJ???)...I don't remember exactly because we just ended up calling WKRP (off the t.v show in the 80's).

There is also a club in San Ramon called Shabooms and it is definitely an older crowd in there than the typical clubs I frequent.  They play music from the last 50 years...starting with the older music earlier in the night and going through the decades as it gets later.  By midnight most of the music is recent and the typical ages of the people are 30's-50's.  I'm 32 and I felt like the young one for a change.  Not my ideal place, but not too bad.

Further down 680 (and actually off 580 at Hopyard), there is a club called Aura in Pleasanton.  They are open Thurs.- Sat.  The atmosphere and music totally depend on the night and the DJ's.  I have seen it rock in there and I have seen it totally flop.  The crowd is interesting, again not my scene, but it works for many - short dresses and heels... Music fluctuates but is pretty much hip-hop, pop, and dance.  The staff is a little snooty...like their patrons.

Good luck with everything.  I hope you find a place to groove.

Why would you NOT want to dance?
