Where is a good chill place to have a drink and watch the fireworks in dc?

Sorry skeeter...if we knew, we would be keeping it to ourselves.  LOL...seriously!  There are, in fact, no good places to casually watch the fireworks and have a nice drink without dropping some serious cash.  Several of the local hotels that front the area of the fireworks have dinner specials, which go up in price during the fireworks...I believe I read the Marriott had a special for $150 per person.

    Since the location of the fireworks is within the bounds of Arlington Cemetery and the area between the Monument and Lincoln Memorials...there are no hotels or bars or even casual places to watch.

    If you are h**l bent on it...recommend three areas..The Doubletree (Crystal city); Georgetown Waterfront (K Street) and the Rosslyn area.  Washington is normally a Godforsaken mess on the 4th.  Security has taken the fun out of it these days.  We prefer to take the metro to Arlington Cemetery and find a good spot near the Pentagon Marina.  We sneak a bottle of wine...but be careful...it's illegal on US Park Service Property....which everything virtually is...

    For the view...my money is on the Doubletree Hotel...they have a revolving restaurant that directly overlooks the River.

    I hope this helps...frankly I'm staying home!  Too much trouble!

In Georgetown there is a place called Tommy Joes on the water front foot of 30th and K by the river,  where you could watch the fireworks and have drinks.  Also traveling around on the 4th is a challenge.  If you can see the Potomac you will be able to see the fireworks.  People will be everywhere.  People hang out on the Key St Bridge or parked in the middle of the interstate.  You could probably carry a nice bottle of wine or a few beers and not have to worry about open container.
