1/2 long english cucumber -- grated

    salt for sprinkling

    2 cups plain yogurt

    2 teaspoons white vinegar

    4 large garlic cloves

1 tablespoon dill seed -- or to taste

salt and white pepper -- to taste

Grate cucumber. Place in a colander and sprinkle lightly with salt. Let stand about 30min. in colander over a bowl to pull out excess water.

Whisk yogurt till smooth. Stir in vinegar, grated cucumber, garlic, and dill.

Season with salt and white pepper to taste.

    Cover and Chill several hours!

Serve chilled with cut fresh vegetables and or warm pita bread! Makes about 2 1/2 cups.

** Note: Make sure that u only use REGULAR plain yogurt not low fat or no fat or else it makes it way too runny!

NOTES : If using as a sauce, this goes well with beef and chicken .

  2. Well, if you want to go over the bridge to Fort Lee.  The best restaurant is Its Greek to Me.  The food is great, fresh and kind of middle of the road, not cheap, not expensive. I love greek food.

  3. Try Pylos  128 E. Seventh St between Avenue A and First Ave.

  4. You can go to astoria queens, there are lots of greek restaurants there, there is also a good one in bayside on bell blvd, i forget the name.  they are all over queens, and they are not expensive.
