My Thoroughbred mare needs a rescue as we don't have enough time to spend with her as she deserves.

  1. It is very, very unlikely that you will find a rescue willing to take in a give-up.  They spend all their resources to rescue horses in dire circumstances, not just horses people don't want any more.

If you are willing to give her away for free, you should be able to do it.  To find her a good home, try therapeutic riding places if she has the disposition for it.  You could advertise her for free only to Pony Club or 4-H members, increasing the odds that she goes to a good home, or you could just advertise her for free to anyone and hope for the best.

  2. The rescue mentioned is full to the gills.  I doubt that you'll be able to place her with a good rescue.  A friend of mine tried to place to horses that a boarder abandoned and she couldn't find any to take them.

You'll have to try to find a good home on your own.  Price her reasonably and you may be able to sell.  If she's very well broke and safe for anyone she's worth $1200 or so.  If she's not well broke or has some training issues then you'll have problems.

  3. you are right she probably will need rescuing soon down the line. why dont you try and find her a home!!!!

  4. Keep in mind, rescues are stretched pretty tight these days.  You might want to advertise her has a free lease or advertise her with a rescue - there is a waiting list for almost all rescues and they are much less likely to take one from someone who is able to pay for upkeep, over one that is in a neglect/abuse situation.

  5. Sorry but she is your responsibility..........you should not expect a charity to take care of the animal you have tired of.  Send her to a retirement home and pay for the retirement she deserves.  If she can still work how about giving her to a young rider or a theraputic riding program?

  6. Don't advertise her for free you will only attract kill buyers....

You should either take your time and find your mare a great home lease her or pay for retirement board... or send her to auction (slaughter) whatever you decide she is your responsibility.

Come one thumbs down! I don't care I'm sick of people not being responsible for their problems.
