Not anywhere too fancy but not too casual either. I want to dress nicely (shirt and tie for him, cocktail dress for me) but I want to be able to pronounce what we're eating. Thanks for your help!

  1. Have you checked Yelp.com?  You can find reviews based on your food tastes and the area you want to dine in.

  3. Everybody's suggestion sucks above. Here are the best restaurants in DC:

    - Capital Grill (6th and Penn NW)

    - Matchbox (H st. NW b/w 7th and 8th st.)

    - Lauriol Plaza (Corner of 18th and T st. NW) -- Best Mexican in DC

    - Melting Pot (19th st. between M and N NW)

    - 2 Amy's Pizza

    - Oceanaire (Best Seafood)

  4. Look into  Oya restaurant ! is very nice Eurasian food very good and is not that much around $30 each person. and the inside is very romantic!!!

  5. We were recently in DC and loved Corduroy on 9th Street NW [right across the street from the Convention Center].  The block looks deserted, but didn't seem unsafe.  Check out their website for details.

Great food, wonderful service.  If you go, you have to try the Buffalo Mozzarella Porcupine.  Wow!

  6. The Aqua Restaurant & Bar is pretty good..

  7. For downtown, Matchbox is fun, has good food, and service is as expected.

There's also Tako Grill in Bethesda (best sushi and Japanese food in the area), but because you mentioned you want to pronounce it, I don't know how that will go over for you.  They have plenty of yummy, pronounceable meals, great service, and a funky, crisp atmosphere.  Took friends there for my husband's 30th and they treated us like royalty!

  8. In the Dupont Circle Area I would recommend 2 places.  Tabbard Inn and Obelisk.  Obelisk is more pricier of the two but both are smartly dressed.  Tabbard Inn is located on N East of Connecticut between Dupont and Foggy Bottom Metro Stops.  It is an old Inn and very cool!

Obelisk is on P West of Dupont.  It is an Fixed Italian menu.  Very good and really enjoyed it.  Pretty unique place, one you both will remember.

Have fun and Happy Birthday!  for your Beau!

  9. I heard the White House is good...
