Where is a good place to deer hunt?

I suggest you look in the local Yellow Pages for a hunting-oriented local Gun Shop. Go there and look for someone with grey hair, and tell them you are a new hunter, and would like a bit of advice on where to hunt, etc. Regards, Larry.

Upstate New York is GREAT for hunting Whitetail deer, especially in the Catskill mountains.

Hunting season starts November 15th.

This is a tough question, it starts with what kind of deer hunting you want to do? Archery, Black Powder, Rifle, Pistol. If you are thinking of shorter range hunting such as Archery, black powder of pistol then you may want to do some hiking on county land that is around where you live to find a lightly wooded ridge. When I hunt with my black powder rifle I sit in a ladder stand on the top of a ridge that is in a light pine forest on the edge of a tamarack swamp.

If I want to hunt with my rifle I sit in my ladder stand on the edge of a corn field next to a u-shaped recessed part of the field. If you do not know anyone that owns a field like this many times you can ask a farmer if you can hunt his land.

I was wondering the same thing, so 2 weeks ago I started scouting.  Today I found a year old clearcut with lots of fresh deer and moose sign, and picked lots of blueberries, saskatoons and rasberries while I was at it.  And I built a ground blind on a hillside.  I would say just go looking for trails and fresh sign.
