Where is a good place to eat in Newcastle City Centre?

Question

My friend and I are heading to Newcastle for the weekend next month and would like to book a restaurant for one of the nights. We are looking for somewhere modern and fun with good food (obviously) and a good location for the city centre and funky bars to head to afterwards. We would like to avoid Chinese or Italian or chains (we have living room and tiger tiger up here!), we particularly like modern british, bistro style or fusion food. Any suggestions?!

There used to be a great little Italian restaurant tucked away down (or just off) Osborne Road in Jesmond. Can't remember the name but you should spot it quite easily because of the big queue outside!

The Grainger Rooms - great seasonal food.

The Bridge Restaurant at the Vermont Hotel. English/French food and a great view of the bridge.

Fisherman's Lodge - very good French-style fish and seafood.

There is a Malmaison Brasserie (as a last resort) and if you suddenly get a craving for Indian food, The Spice Cube comes highly recommend.

Im from newcastle and there is lots of restaurants in the city centre.The best ones are on the quay side next to the tyne bridge and the millenium bridge.Just have a look around the city or if you like you can come to my place and i'll make you and your friend lunch =)

Viz Magazine used to mention the restaurant owned by 'Lord Ali of Harpole' in Newcastle. Apparently they have the hottest phall in the UK!
