  1. I recommend to you the Isle of Bute, easily reached from Glasgow or Glasgow Airport by bus or train, then the ferry over from Wemyss Bay. Wemyss Bay is on the A78 between Greenock and Largs on the cioast road, but the ferry charge on a car is high compared to £5 return for a foot passenger, and there are regular buses on the isle so a car is not necessary. Please visit this website for a long list of actual traveller experiences, blogs, photos, maps etc about the island which is completely unspoilt and undeveloped but great for hiking, biking, fishing, sailing, birding, swim with the seals, horse-riding, drinking local ales, visit Mount Stuart House, or seeking out the prehistoric sites and spooky Standing Stones. 2. Loch Lubnaig - Forestry commission has a few log cabins on the shore - it's fantastic if you like peace and relaxation.

  3. It depends where you are travelling from and what you like.  Edinburgh is a good city break - tonnes to see and do!  if you are already in Scotland, the western Isles are by far my favourite...perhaps you could visit Skye (easiest to get to due to the bridge), or Mull.

  4. I'd "ditto" Julie with Oban.

  5. Fort William or Oban, both beautiful with lots to see.
