  1. Grand Luxe is a decent joint to eat, kinda like the Cheesecake Factory.  I really enjoy Zanie's comedy club and Howl at the Moon piano bar.  If you go on Friday, you may be able to call Howl at the Moon and try to get on a guest list for a happy hour party.  They'll hook you up with some appetizers and a few freebies.  I'm a guy so don't want to give out too much advice, but I figured I'd comment on some of the recommendations of others.  I think Howl at the Moon may be the best bet.

  2. I've always loved going to Geja's for fondue! (OK, so the web site says romantic, but it's just fun & intimate for any pair--whether on a date or just a friend's (Mom & daughter's?) night out.) It's also in a really neat neighborhood to stroll around in or go see live music at the Park West or comedy at Second City. Parking can be rough especially on weekends--we used to be able to park under Augustana hospital... Have a blast! (Oh! And save room for the chocolate fondue!)

  3. The Grand Lux Cafe on Michigan Avenue would be a great place to take Mom. Then afterwards, you can go shopping on the Magnificent Mile.

  4. How about Tony & Tina's Wedding. Or Second City or Zanies!!

  5. A dueling piano bar is always fun.  Like Howl at the Moon.  Take a handful of ones so you can get them to play a song for you.  You write your request on a napkin then put it on the piano and a tip in the jar.  She'll have fun, you'll both meet some cool people and get to sing along to some tunes you both know.  It's a fun time for everyone.
