We are a newly married couple and will be moving to the KC area. We are looking for a place near a dog park, gym, restaurants, shopping. We are looking for a house or condo. Anything under $1000/mo.

We are from St. Louis if you've been to STL think the Central Westend or The Hill

  1. ok olathe is exactly what your looking for, great comunity low crime exc. where im at its a 5 minute drive max to all of those places.

  2. north of the river is very nice and safe like liberty or the new shoal creek area kearney is also nice but very expensive I graduated from Liberty High School so I am a little partial.

  3. My sister lives in Independence.  The Royals and the Chiefs are nearby.  She loves the schools for her kids.  Everything she needs is close by.  I know she's said before that KC School District is horrid, but Independence School District is better.

  4. Where are you working and what are you other interests? Do you want or house, apartment , or condo loft near the " art " district if so then the Cross roads district ,  if not then Waldo, Old town Overland park or Brookside. Kansas city is much more spread out than STL and little public transport. I would suggest that you try to find something close to your work. You also need to consider schools at some time even if your are not planning to use them for resale value. Stay out of the KC district, Raytown, Hickman Mills, Grandview, school district.

  5. mission, roeland park , prairie village there all good

  6. I would stay East of downtown.

    Raytown

    Independence

    Blue Springs

    Lee Summit.

Also, when you go back to St Louis for visits you will get out of town so much easier and quicker.

  7. Just looked at the websites of the places you were refering to in St. Louis....You would like living downtown. There are some nice suburbs in the area too. But by looking at the websites of Central West End and The Hill...and all of the activities you want to do...Downtown is best.

Other nice areas (suburbs) Parkville, MO, Riverside, North KC, MO......Olathe, KS, Overland Park, KS, Lenexa, KS

  8. stay AWAY from Raytown.

    Don't ask, just stay away.

  9. If you have kids or plan to, stay out of the KCMO school district.

We live in the Kansas suburbs in Johnson County. You can probably stay in Overland Park, Lenexa or Shawnee for under $1,000 per month. (For sure Shawnee)  There is a dog park at Shawnee Mission Park-you will have a short drive, but it is off leash with a one mile trail and lake.  We have great food and restaurants out here, but the Plaza in Kansas City is a short drive.
