Where is a popular area for students and young professionals? Popular for FRENCH students and young professionals, not foreigners.

The Luxembourg Park area in the 6th arrondissement is fairly nice.  It's central, upscale, and there are lots of universities in the area.

Paris in and of it's self is very expensive to live in.  My daughter went to France for school in Caen and the she taught English in the central Mt region .  She found an affordable place for 359 Euros that in Paris would have cost close to 1000 Euros per month.  One thing to keep in mind that their idea of a furnished apartment is a futon on the floor and a card table with 2 chairs in a single room with a shared bathroom down the hall.    If you have ever been to Paris you will find it is a city of foreginers from all over.  It has it's latin qtr, jewish qtr etc.  

Paris was very interesting but there was even more going else where and looking for chateaus.

The trendy area for young professionals is the Marais and especially the area around the new Opera house at the Place Bastille.

Students in Paris live where they can afford to live but the Latin Quarter is still the traditional center of student activity.
