Where is a good place to stay in Barcelona? one that is close to the touristy things?

I stayed at the Citadines. Its right on Las Ramblas (top end).

Nothing exceptional, but clean, well placed and inexpensive.

The best play to stay is near Plaza Cataluña or Paseo de Gracia you can find a lot of hotels from economic to luxury accommodations. Last time, some 18 months ago, I stay in the Gravina H-10 is a 3 star hotels in a calm street very close to Plaza Cataluña. I pay approx.180 euros per night  for 2 interconnecting rooms. Plaza Cataluña is the center of Barcelona with access to the metro, the touristic buses and taxis. You can walk La Rambla and the Barrio Gotico where you can find good eating and shopping.
