Where is a good place to stay in the Lake District?

I want to take a girl away for the weekend in the lake district but have never been before so have no idea where is a good place to visit and where is a good romanic place to stay, any ideas?

Almost anywhere you choose to stay in the Lake District can be romantic. We went for our honeymoon there and it was my first ever visit and I have loved the place ever since.  Your problem is  that at this time of the year the Lake District is both busy and quite expensive. I would suggest  staying at one of these places:

Hawkshead:  The Ivy House Hotel is lovely and there are two or three pubs with rooms.

Windermere: very, very busy but a lovely place as a centre for getting around the area.

Ambleside: Some excellent, and expensive hotels such as Rothay Manor, b&b's and pubs.

Kendal: handy for the M6 and with a good range of accommodation.

You could buy the Good Pub Guide which includes recommendations for good pubs with comfortable rooms.

depends on when you are going, suggest if you are not intending doing the walking up mountains thing then try somewhere like Keswick. This time of the year though it gets pretty busy. I can't tell you about hotels, but if you do a google search for hotels in Keswick you should find somewhere

Lake Windermere is lovely but also busy enough to go out for lovely meals etc.

This is a great little guest house, in Bowness on Windermere,  overlooking Lake Windermere....just a few minutes walk from the town and all the shops, bars and restaurants, but tucked away enough to be peaceful Nice and cosy...and friendly too.
