Where is a good place to stay near the Machu Picchu Ruins around 40 dollars a night?

I don't want to stay in a hostel. I'd like something thats nice but not necessarily a boutique hotel.

I would not stay in Aguas Calientes if you paid me! But then I am not someone who seeks out the company of my fellow countrymen while trying to get to know the wonders and cultures of foreign lands. Machu Picchu is indeed one of the world's seven wonders and well worth a visit. There is much baggage that comes with such a visit however..namely Aguas Calientes, an overgrown concession stand on steroids. Ollantaytambo is a much nicer option but it is not at the base of Machu Picchu. Instead it is a living Inca city surrounded by Archaeological sites.It is the last stop before Aguas Calientes on the train from Cusco.

Though I have not yet stayed there, I did have dinner there and would strongly recommend it on that count. The owners are of European extraction (I think Spain) and really know how to please the European palate.

Aguas Calientes is a small town a 10 minute bus ride from Macchu Picchu. The town is just for tourist and there are many Hotels, Hostels & Restaurants. Also take a swimmin suit because there's a Hot Spring Pool open until 10pm.

Google on Aguas Calientes to find out prices and if you know spanish go to Google peru and from there search peruvian sites.

I'm not sure about price, but there's a good hotel called la cabana, which is very nice. It's not some big fancy hotel, it's just a nice little place, with nice rooms, plumbing, etc. I stayed there for a day while visiting the ruins.
