Question:

Where is a good place to train in Final Fantasy 7?

I'm at the start of disc three, and I'm currently at level 59. I want to be at least level 70 before I go face Sephiroth. I have already beaten Diamond and Ultimate weapon, and have gotten the Knights of the Round Summon.

SO:

1. Where is a good place to train to get to level +70?

2. Should I spend the time to actually get Omni-slash? (Is it worth it?)

Thanks.

  1. Well first off, I would not waste my time with Knights of the Round, as it does not do that much damage to Sephiroth, it is a long sumon and it takes a heck of a lot of your MP.

There are two great areas to level up:

One is the northern cave where Sephirtoh is, and you can get all the way to the bottom of the cave, where the save point is (do not go father or you will be stuck) and still be able to leave. I know, I have done it many a time.

Master Tonberry gives you 6000 EXP,  Magic Pot gives you 8000 EXP, and they are bountiful in the swampy area in the crater.

The second is the crashed Gelnika, Unknown 2 gives you 2000 EXP

And I would get Omni-slash, it is a great limit! It can do 9999 hits of damage! (which is a bug bite to Safer Sephiroth, but if you have someone equipted with mimic, then you will be good to go!)

  2. Train wherever the highest level monsters you can kill easily and quickly are. Same strat as every other RPG.

Omni-Slash is the sh*t. Get it.

  3. 1) The final dungeon (the road to Sephiroth) is a pretty good place, just as long as you know how far down to go so you can head back.

Otherwise, the southernmost continent is pretty good as well.

    2) While it's ultimately your choice...  I say go for it as you'll likely pick up everybody else's Limit 4 Breaks.

  4. 1. The second poster is correct--you can get some massive XP just before the final boss confrontations in the crater.  The best npc there by FAR is the little pot guy that asks for elixers.  Just use the dupe technique to create unlimited elixers, and give them to the guy whenever he shows up--you'll get absolutely MASSIVE xp.  The other guys by the boss are fun to grind as well, but watch out for tonberry : \

2.It's by no means the most important thing to get, but it'll make your life much easier to get it ASAP.  I consider Knights of the Round materia to be much more important overall.  Interesting note--if you max out several of clouds stats and use his original buster sword for the final fight, he will do nothing but 9999 hits on sephiroth with omnislash--the ultimate weapon never got to 9999 on sephi

    ***EDIT***

Post 4 does a good job of reiterating EXACTLY what I said.  Just before the final save point is the best place in the game to train--anywhere within the few floors before will have the same enemies.  AVOID tonberry--the xp SEEMS decent, but he can sometimes destroy even a maxed out party if you're not in a "killing" frame of mind.  His HP is massive, and its more cost-effective to focus on the pot... and anything else for that matter.

The gelnika isn't worth even mentioning because you can't level there once you leave--its only useful to know about if you're at that stage in the game already.

The poster concerning KotR obviously doesn't know that the summon damage is primarily based on your magic stats.  If you max out, you can easily do over 100k damage per summon on the final boss, which is effective as a chain mime.  How can you post about the effectiveness of a skill useable by one character versus an equally powerful summon usable by any character?

Concerning Omnislash + Mime.... = FAIL
