Where is a good place to travel in the US during October?

Question

I am looking for a not so expensive get away for October. My wife and I will be on our 1st anniversary, so something romantic. We live in Wilmington, NC.... Any ideas?

Drive north to New England and see the autumn splendor!  Be a leaf peeper.

Vermont and New Hampshire advertise their fall splendor, and the colors are indeed beautiful, but along the way I was just as smitten by New Jersey and southern New York.  Prices there weren't so bad, either.  Vermont and New Hampshire tend to overcharge for everything during the fall.

A huge buck with the biggest antlers jumped across me on a on hiking trail in northern NJ that fall.  That animal's grace blew me away.  He was just a few feet n front of me.  (I'm not sure who was more startled, me or the buck!)

san diego, key west florida, boston, NYC.... depends what exactly you're looking for! all are awesome places.

Airfares around that time arent so bad.

Another Idea--- go to mt. washintgon in Maine and go hikinh, all the folliage will be great
