  4. no.

don't adopt an animal from a shelter.

    it only leads to heartache.

  5. I am adopting a redbone coonhound from:

    www.petsneedingpeople.com

They are reputable and have many, many dogs...seems like a lot of purebreds too.

Nice people -- no connection to them other than the adoption.

there are many shelters you may visit personally. if you prefer to have another like breed please go to http://www.smallpawsrescue.org

Small Paws Rescue is the largest breed rescue in the world, and takes in Bichon Frises and every conceivable mix thereof.

Good luck and, again, thank you for your spirit.

  16. As someone suggested, PetFinder.com can help you search local shelters for the breeds you want in your area.  Keep in mind when you visit the potential pet to keep an eye on the conditions of the shelter.  Is it clean?  Do the animals seem happy and well fed?  Are the staff friendly, and do they answer your questions?  Will they let you spend time with the animal first?  Will they let you bring in your dog on a leash to see if she gets along with the new dog before you adopt it?

Don't be afraid to call around and ask questions.  You need to know you'll be getting what's right for you and your pup!
