Where is a good website to find a flat/cottage to rent for a week in England?

I've been looking for a site to find moderate prices on a cottage or flat, but the prices seem to be outrageous! I can spend around 400-600 dollars per week, but would really like to stay in the 400 dollar range.

Any good sites without ridiculous prices? Your answers are greatly appreciated!

  1. To be absolutely honest, I really think you're going need to revise your budget.  It's incredibly expensive over here and I doubt you'll get anything for £200-£300.  I pay that just to rent a room in a flat on a long-term lease!  Holiday rentals on a short term basis will undoubtedly be priced up on that.

If you want to get a good idea of what's available for what price I'd recommend you look at www.gumtree.com and then click onto the 'holiday rentals' section.  It lists properties in other countries too but if you do a search using the keyword search you should be able to locate places in the part of the UK you're looking in.  A lot of properties on Gumtree don't have agents and their fees to worry about so it'll probably have some of the best prices you're likely to find.

  2. I'm not sure which sites you have checked out.

I'm planning a trip to the London. Ireland and Scotland for next year so I have been looking myself.  The problem is that the US dollar is not worth as much there so it cost is a lot higher. I noticed the price differ depending on when you are traveling too. I've added some of the sites I have been looking at.

Hope this helps.  Someone from the UK could probably answer this much better though.  :-)

  3. It really depends where in England you want to stay but try this for starters

  4. Right well I'm from London and that is NOT enough money at all. Sorry to be so blunt but its the truth. Your best bet is going to somewhere outside of London its way to expensive here and definitely not worth it. Maybe up north like Liverpool or Manchester, the prices of flats/houses are a lot cheaper up there. Good luck finding a place =)
