If you mean this time of year, Panama City Beach, FL.  August is the tail end of the busy tourist season and it's still warm...no hot & beautiful.  If you stay on the west end of town it's quieter, but a little farther to drive to attractions.  

There are tons of things to do as well.  Your adventure level and who you're travelling with will determine what you want to do, but here are some of the things we've done.  Pier Park is a brand new outdoor mall...my kids could shop all day there.  Fishing, golf, water sports like parasailing, boat rental (dolphin watching) or jet skis, playing or tanning on the beach, go carts, adventure rides, and mini golf are just a few options.  For more all day type of things there is Shipwreck Island Waterpark and Gulf World Marine Park.  http://www.panama-city-beach-vacations.c... has even more ideas including things for families & kids.

If you'd like a casual place to eat on the beach try Schooner's or Pineapple Willy's (they have alligator).  For a nice meal (pricey too) try Casa de Fogo (brazillian bbq), Boar's Head or Captain Anderson's.

Right now I would book my Block Island hotel in the fall-say end of September. It won't be that crowded. It is a great place to bike ride and enjoy the local restaurants. It is an Island, so it is an adventure going to and from. A 3 day weekend get away is perfect.

The Bahamas are extreamly beautiful but you can find less touristy places in Hawaii. The island of Kauai is much less busy then the islands of Maui, Oahu, and The big island. Keep in mind though that Kauai can get much more rain in the winter so if you are really looking for sun summer and the late spring will be the more ideal times to go. Good luck!
