My Dad and I are going to Costa Rica January/February of 2009 and need a reasonable place to stay during our visit. We both prefer a quiet peaceful setting near but not necessarily on a beach. I work 90 hours a week from April-October and just want to relax and enjoy the beauty of Costa Rica. I'd prefer a small 2 bdrm house vs an apartment complex or condo. I've never been to Costa Rica so if there are any locals who can help make my stay relaxing and surrounded by all the beauty Costa Rica has to offer I'd really appreciate it....Thank in advance!

  1. You should not have a problem finding a place for that amount......It just really depends on where you wish to be......You'll just need to do a bit of research on the counrty and decide where you want to stay.....I'd suggest the La Fortuna area(not on the beach) or some where around Samara(beach town)......If you have any questions fell free to ask me.....I'll include a couple web-sites you can check out and search for a place.

    www.ticotimes.net

    www.amcostarica.com

  2. I'm tico (costa rican) and I can show u the city for free, because i'd be on vacations, and by now, I don't have things to do yet, and ALSO IF U ARE GOING TO BE IN SAN JOSE, if u need me just send me an email. San Jose have apartments and hotels a little bit cheap, there are also some people that can rent u an apartment in San Jose downtown or sorroundings, but the city is at 2 hours aprox. from the nearest beach (jacó beach). Try to visit some websites in spanish asking for rent a place in Orotina, Atenas, San Ramón or Palmares (places between San José and the beaches, see at google earth or Y!Maps) because if u ask in english... price are a little bit more expensive. Sites as www.nacion.com (in the link of Bienes Raices (Real State))

Also, by that time, Palmares city hall organize the yearly town festival (in spanish: Festejos Populares de Palmares), with a great mood, and a lot of activities, and also Beer!! Now that FIESTA have taken a lot of popularity...

  3. When I studied in CR i lived in Heredia with a great family, I would not reccomend Heredia if you want to enjoy a beach setting because it is in the middle of the country, BUT I would say it would be difficult to rent a place for 2months only! If you would really like to enjoy your time in the CR the last thing you want to do is stay in one place, there is soo much to see and do that being bogged down with a heafty payment would be a shame!!! Some places you must visit are:

    Volcan Arenal

Montezuma (small hippie town out of the way of everything natural beauty)

Manuel Antonio (very turisty but nice beach)

Monteverde (only zipline here no where else in the coutnry)

Puerto Viejo in the Limon province (black sand from volcano)

Penisula de Oso (did not visit but hard to get to so I must assume it is very peacful and not very touristy)

Mal pais (if you surf or like the surf lifestyle)

Dont bother going into San Jose unless you are a museum person

And anywhere in the nicoya peninsula is perfect

**only putareanas as a port the water is nasty and its very hot there!!

I can go on and on but that is a good start
