Cape Verde islands ('Cabo Verde' in Portuguese) named after 'Cape Verde' (in Senegal) the westernmost tip of Africa and are located off-shore from the western coast of West Africa (formerly Portuguese Guinea) the islands along with the mainland of Guinea-Bissau, sandwiched between Senegal & Guinea republic, attained independence as one country in 1975 after a long armed struggle against the Potuguese. But by 1980 Cape verde islands became a separate country with 'Praia' as capital.
