As compared to other disciplines? If AGW turns out to be dead wrong will this field lose relevance?

  1. The field is of vital importance, because it is undeniable that humans are impacting the planets resources and that fouling their own nest has consequences that affect the way we live, or in the case of China and India, the way they want to live.

Not likely that the relevance will ever be lost.

  2. Climate science, like so many other "fields of employment" is filled with self-proclaimed experts who know nothing at all.  It is a made-up science.  Just like Environmentalist, it is made up to sound important, but is not a real, educated discipline.  Ecologist are people who study the environment, and Meteorologists study the weather.  Climatology is a fairly young science, and borrows heavily from other disciplines at this point.  Most people who claim to be climatologists are really Meteorologists, geologists, or in some cases plant biologists all claiming expertize in a field that did not exists 10 years ago.

When I see experimental science related to the field, instead of speculation, mismatched correlations, and political mandates, I will consider it a field of science, but not before.

  3. Not as good as physics, better than psychology.

What you're missing here is the fact that the influence of CO2 on climate is SO strong, that it's not hard to detect it.  In statistical terms, the "signal" from CO2 in the present warming is very strong.

Which is why many different statistical models show CO2 is the main cause.  Even when you vary the parameters.  Once again, in statistical terms, the models are "robust".  They don't have to be perfect to describe what's happening now.

Which is why most all scientists agree that the present warming is real, and mostly caused by us.
