  1. I think Melbourne is summed up in a couple of spots. One is Ackland St StKilda. Grab a great latte and sit and watch people from at walks of life mingle on the streets. Especiall like the old hippy ladies that live in Million dollar houses and don't realise it and then argue about $3 for a coffee. Bt pay $150 for Berkenstocks or what ever they are called.

  2. Well, your question is categorized in dining out, so are you in couple or friends?

If couple, i would suggest you this place. sails on the bay. (www.sailsonthebay.com) - just google it, you find it. The restaurant itself is superb especially if you go there for dinner. It sits on the elwood beach (quiet beach) on the seaside facing the melbourne city and you can see the light of the city from there. You can even have a walk on the beach after dinner if the weather is fine. It the most romantic restaurant in melbourne that you can find

For single or more Aussie experience, you can start your weekend stroll down the st.kilda beach (take the tram no 96 - board on bourke st. or 112 board on collins st.) then continue the afternoon with a walk down the chapel st. (board south east direction train and offboard south yarra station, turn left when you get out of the station and walk to the 1st corner to your right, that is chapel st.). many good restaurant and bars are located there. Then you might want to give a melbourne central a go then head to crown casino perhaps for your nite or hit some jazz club along upper lt.collins st or the street after it (1 street before flinders st). Lots of jazz clubs around there.

For clubs, there are many nice clubs too in melbourne along city area (lonsdale st.), chapel st. and docklands area (one nice club: lavish) , you can go to docklands also, just board any trams with docklands destination on it or you can even walk there (it's just south of the city), there are many restaurants there, try fusion japanese called kobe jones (the no.1 special dish is superb)

You won't get touristry with this trip expect for the crown casino things.

  3. onto the highway that leads to sydney
