What are you guys talking about, there are English only communities growing all over France, haven't you heard of Verteillac, Ribérac or Bergerac that are dominated by English expats who get drunk in public, are rude to locals, are noisy, and carry on like they do in England? Or the expats in Normandy and Britanny who speak English only and even hire workers from the UK to come and work on their house

  1. The Latin Quarter is great. It's located near Notre Dame, and everyone speaks English. You'll find American or foreign students who really know the language well. You can find it at the 5th and parts of the 6th arrondissement of Paris. Latin Quarter got its name because Latin is an international language, and the base for all languages. It was the base for English, and because most people in the area (probably all) speak English, it's called Latin Quarter.

Actually, France is really progressing with English. It's taught in schools, and most people can have a conversation in English.

Bordeaux is also a good place to try. I know they are very fluent in English.

  2. most people in restaurants will speak english expecially in paris, i found my stay there easy to communicate, i cant tell you the name of the hotel but they all spoke english. but to be a bit more confident take a phrase book, i find the aa ones the best. (:

  3. I would go to Paris or try one of the camping companies, like  euro camp, key camp and haven Europe. Just drive in and ask for a caravan for the weekend or ring the companies direct. They are all franchises.

If you want drink in the street, stay in england, we don't need bad boys in France.

  5. Don't come to France if you want the people to speak english.

And for info, Ribérac (pop. 4,100) and Bergerac (pop.26,000), are not "dominated" by english expats.

France is the country of french people, who speak a language called "French"; if you want a place where "everyone speaks English", stay at home...

  6. most people in Europe can speak a little English so why do you want to spend money to take you abroad if you are really looking fora small piece of England.it easy to understand and communicate with people if you try and learn simple words and respect the fact you are in a foreign country and it is not them that should speak your lingo.you would be more appreciated if you tried to speak in their language and it can be fun and Ive found that you make friends quicker as people try to help you understand.

  7. Why not stay in England if you don't want to try learning the lingo? It's half the enjoyment of going abroad.

If I were you I would book a holiday at a place where everyone will be English and make sure they have sausage, eggs and beans on the menu.

  8. Ahh now you cant go to france and not speak french! stay at home if you want to speak english.

  9. Why not just stay in England?  Come on, the fun of going to france is trying out your terrible french!  Get yourself a phrase book, it at least shows a little respect for the country.

If you stay near the ports they all speak English, but they like you to at least attempt a little of their language.
