  1. We have been to the Caribbean eight times including four cruises. Three of the cruises were during the summer. The ships simply navigated around bad weather.

We also have stayed at individual islands during the summer and avoided bad weather. One was Aruba, which is safer than most. The point is that, yes, it's hurricane season and you take a chance when you go down there at that time. But many people do without running into a problem.

In addition to the ABC islands, again I would recommend you consider a cruise.

Prices depend not so much on the time of year but on how far in advance you book and research your trip. Resorts and cruise lines have specials all the time. But when you see one, you have to move fast because they don't last.

We never had a problem with heat. Most destinations average in the mid-80s during the summer. The article below shows the average rainfall and temperatures for each island by month.

  2. What exactly do you mean by "OK"?

You run a risk of hurricanes anywhere in the Caribbean if you travel in July. It will also be VERY hot! That's why most people go in the winter and prices are lower in the summer.

  3. Antigua!

  4. Summer [or more specifically, June through late October/early November] is hurricane season in the Caribbean, so there's always the risk you might have a storm ruin your vacation. However, the "ABC islands" [Aruba, Bonaire and Curacao] are out of the main hurricane zone, so are less-likely to be hit.

Because it's hurricane season, and because people aren't trying to escape the cold of US winters, the prices in the Caribbean are lower at this time of year, although it still isn't "cheap" to vacation in the Caribbean.
