I live in South Florida and am in need of a vacation. A friend of mine found a round trip deal from Air Jamaica for $250 with taxes and fees from Miami to Kingston.Another friend told me that Kingston is a rough place and whitey is not welcome in those parts. I found a hotel on Holborn Road. Anyone know about traveling there and the best way for a caucasian to enjoy a few days of relaxation?

  1. http://listjamaica.com/hotels

check if your friend can find tickets to montego bay airport

nice places are there... Kingston is not exactly a vacation spot... you could perhaps go to Portland but it seems you are on a tight budget and most villas there will cost you.

Try for MOntego Bay... that is your best bet for somewhere near an airport.

  2. well race does not matter where you want to go on a trip and for Jamica I been there once going for my second time and i have not yet felt discriminated. Therefore you should go to mobay, i have heared kingston is not safe. So try Mobay you will love it.

  3. Do caucasians relax differently? Sorry, just sounds odd that you feel you have to specifiy. Kingston not really the place to relax.....been there for a few days and it was a very busy place. Negril and Treasure Beach are nice places to relax.

  4. Your "friend" has misinformed you. Jamaicans welcome all people because like mixed curly fries said, we are a national of multiple races "Out of Many, One People". Your hotel will be nice, no as luxurious as the resorts but nice. Check out the clubs in New Kingston, Quad, Asylum, etc.  Check out the beaches, definitely visit Hellshire on a Sunday for some good fried or steamed fish and bammy or festival.  Visit Devon House, eat some great ice-cream. Visit Port Royal- see remnants of the past.

  5. First of all Jamaican people are not all black. Jamaica is mostly filled with mixed people. Of all skin colors and ethnicities. There are many different kinds of Jamaicans living in Jamaica like white Jamaicans, Spanish Jamaicans, Indian Jamaicans, Asian Jamaicans..etc. But dosen't matter what you are in Jamaica , Jamaicans come together as one as JAMAICANS ! So you'll be fine. Kingston is dirty and stink. You can go enjoy yourself in Montego Bay, Ocho Rios, Negril..places like those but usually people don't go to Kingston to vacation. Don't listen to that dumb answer. Jamaica makes people feel stress free from there problems in there own countries that's why they go to Jamaica. It relaxes the mind and soothes the body. If you love partying I suggest you go to Negril. If you love beaches and animals go to Ocho Rios.

  6. NO PLACE that is near the airport is safe... and as far as I'm concerned... NO PLACE is the whole of Jamaica is safe... They never seem to want to warn people how much crime there is in Jamaica while they are showing all those happy, smiling people on their commercials.

Jamaica has those damnable gun courts that have taken the weapons away from DECENT people and left the guns in the hands of the thugs and the police and the military... and at times... it's all the same person.

You couldn't PAY me enough to take my boat back to Jamaica.

  7. Kingston is not the touristy section of Jamaicamon, it's the business center.  Race has nothing to do with if you are welcome or not--some areas even another Jamaican won't venture into (just like I'm sure you won't venture into some "white" sections of Miami).  I'd recommend you head for a tourist area such as Negril (party central), MoBay, Ochi.  If it's just relaxation, consider Port Antonio.  Your big problem would be how to get from the airport to one of the places.  If you don't want to foot the bill for a taxi and stay in the Kingston area, I'd recommend you consider the Morgan's Harbour Hotel, minutes from the airport and closer to Port Royal.  It's about the only location in Kingston that will have a beach, though man made, but don't go swimming unless you are immune from all skin diseases.  The airport is on a peninsula across the bay from Kingston so it's a 20/30 minute ride downtown.

  8. Its sweet that you want to go to Jamaica. if you want to go to Kingston there is lots of things you can do in the capital, like seeing the Bob Marley museum, good sea food in port royal where  pirates once lived and that was destroyed by an earthquake many years ago with  the ruins of tumbled buildings on display but if you really want to have fun Ochi would be the place to be there are tons of north Americans there so you would feel right at home.

Kingston is just 3 1/2 hours from ochi but if you want to go to Kingston you should have someone to guide you.
