There is no political entity called Kurdistan but there is an area populated mainly by Kurds. It consists of the northwestern part of Iran, northern Iraq, and northeastern Turkey.

Kurdistan is the region covering parts of Turkey, Iran, Iraq and Syria where the Kurds live.

The Kurds are an Indo European nomadic people who have been fighting for an independant homeland for hundreds of years.

Many have settled in cities such as Erbil in northern Iraq.

There are about 20 million or more of them. Nearly all are Muslim.

Although most people in Kurdistan are Kurds there are many other ethnic people who live in the region such as Turks, Turkomens, Arabs, Armenians,Assyrians, Azeris and Persians.

Kurds have been badly treated by their respective countries, such as chemical bombings ordered by Saddam Husain's government, and they have often resorted to terrorism. I don't condone that but I believe in time they should be given more autonomy over affairs in the region.
