  1. Seeing it is a religious requirement of the Jewish faith I would have

to say anywhere there is a large Jewish population like Israel

  2. For cultural reasons, the United States., for religous reasons, Isreal and any muslim countries.  Europe tends to be very low

  3. Circumcision in Eastern Europe is rare. We tend not to mutilate our children.

  4. There is a circumcision map available at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prevalence_... where you can also see lists of which countries are doing it more.  You wanted to know about Europe and it seems that Slovenia, Bosnia, Serbia, Montenegro, Albania and Macedonia are the only countries in Europe over 20%.  Bosnia is a muslim country by the way.

There is also a report from the World Health Organization at http://whqlibdoc.who.int/publications/20... that has some info on it.

  5. Circumcision is performed on the vast majority of boys in Israel and other middle eastern countries because of their religious requirements. If you are Jewish or Muslim you are usually circumcised.

The other places where circumcision is common are South Korea and The Philippines. The United States is really the only "western" developed country that practices circumcision on the majority of boys for non-religious reasons (although it is much rarer today than it was several decades ago).

Circumcision used to be very common in Canada and Australia like it is in the US but in recent decades most people in those countries don't do it anymore. Circumcision is also more rare in Mexico and among the hispanic community in general. Circumcision is uncommon in Eastern Europe as well (although it's not uncommon due to the minority of Muslim and Jewish populations).

Circumcision is extremely rare in most parts of South America, Asia (except the two countries mentioned) and Western Europe and in countries like England the rate is as low as 5% now.

  6. Circumcision is most prevalent in Africa and the Middle East. In Europe, South America, east Asia and the Caribbean/Central America it is very uncommon to be circumcised.

Here's the list of countries where more than 80% of the male population are circumcised:

    Algeria

    Guinea

    Liberia

    Burkina Faso

    Niger

    Sierra Leone

    Mauritania

  7. israel and U.S.

  8. Think of all the countries where Islam(the Muslim religion) and Judaism are practised and you will have your answer. Israel is one of the top countries obviously but it does have a large Arab population as well and not all Arabs are Muslim;in fact lots are Christians. The Arabs countries of the Middle East have 100 percent male circumcision in the Muslim portion of the population. Don't forget Turkey is largely Muslim, some parts of the former Soviet Soc. Republic, the Muslim parts of the former Yugoslav Republic.

Also right up at the top of the list is the good old U.S. of A. which until recently had a male circumcision rate of 85-90 percent. Canada has had a very high circumcision rate too especially in Ontario, the western provinces and B.C. .Quebec is often cited as having a low circumcision rate but I feel that this is not the case. The urban areas of Quebec have tons of circumcised males and there are lots of Jews and Muslims in Montreal. The Maritime provinces until recently had very high circumcision rates. Newfoundland was formerly a British colony so has a low rate.

Australia had a very high circ rate until some time in the late 80's. Part of the problem in recent years is that there has been an circumcision faction who make parents feel that their male children may react in a negative fashion as adults. This flies in the face of recent studies that show circumcision to be of great value in cutting down the transmission of AIDs./
