This may be
impossible to answer without seeing first hand, but I'll give it a try. I
recently moved into a home that has central air. It's a pretty old unit (circa
1983?), up on the rooftop. BDP (Carrier) model 585CJ030050. Yes, it is old and
needs to be replaced, but let's put that aside for now. I know the filter must
be due for cleaning and/or changing. But I can't find the filter! First I
checked the intake -- the only large vented opening inside the house. I removed the vent
cover, and it's just big empty space... no place for a filter, nothing! So I
went up on the roof, looking to see if the filter was in the rooftop unit. Nope.
Every side panel seems permanently bolted on, and I couldn't find anything that
moved or lifted out of the way. Am I missing something obvious? I'd hate to pay
for a service call just to locate the filter, but I'm almost to that
point!
