Where is nanotechnology being used nowadays, and how can it help us in the future?

I don't know of it's uses now (seems like something that our gov't would put too much funding into...), but the potential uses are amazing. Aside from self repairing objects and nearly flawless manufacturing, they could also be used for medical applications (think how easy it would be just to inject some into your blood and let them fix a broken leg, etc), scientific applications (due to their size, they can withstand deep pressure easier, thus allowing them to explore almost freely underwater) and a hundred other things I'm leaving out.

It's all pretty cool though, when you think about it. I rumor I've heard recently is that they are developing micro/nano repair bots for use on the new british super-tech armada (modular battleships! ^^).
