Me and my fella are going to the Lakes on 3rd October for the weekend! Can anyone suggest anywhere that has lots of sight seeing places and nice country pubs that we can go to in the evening?

Also if you can suggest any nice hotels that would be great aswell!!

Thank you!

  1. keswick is the best place to go in the lakes, the town itself is lovely and theres quite alot going on there then there is at some other places like windermere.  Go on http://www.laterooms.com for hotels.  i always book through this as you dont have to pay til you get to the hotel and you can read other people reviews of the hotel so you know what to expect.  the lakes is lovely though and make sure you have fish and chips when you get there!

  2. Keswick is indeed nice like Windermere though if you go there you are going to get the feeling of being continuously ripped off There is a place just in between the two though called Ambleside and its handy for most of the lakes except Buttermere although you can drive there in an hour  There are many walks around ambleside and Beatrix Potter is prominent here . Buttermere has to be the most beautiful place in the lake district but with one pub and a cafe there's little to do

Give Bassentwaite Lake a miss apart form Mount skiddaw there is little there although the scenery is exceptional from skiddaw There are 2 pubs and a hotel here The castle Inn often has entertainment on and has rooms although 3 STAR only

What your looking for it sounds as though Grassmere would suit you, it fulfils your criteria

Tourism has failed this year(RAIN) most of the B+Bs have vacancy signs up  and the hotels are conspicuous by the absence of customers

Why not just pick a place, come and look then decide to stay or not I'll guarantee you'll get a hotel/room in nearly any of the BBs/Hotels.

The A591 is a good road to head for it Runs from Bothal Near Carlisle to Windermere via Ambleside and there are many places to stay/stop on the road.

Avoid the Pencil Museum in Keswick its the biggest rip in the Lakes.

Sorry I meant Conniston not Grassmere for your criteria although Grassmere is nice too. Conniston if you know is the place that Sir Donald Campbell was killed trying to make his water speed record some years ago, its a pretty little place

  3. I stayed here once.

This is close to Keswick and close to the M6 for when the rain has become too much and you want to go home. Lol

All of the Lake district is good for sightseeing and walking and mountain biking and chasing sheep.

    Enjoy your trip
