Where is the ACTUAL 'cradle of humankind'?

I'm not talking about civilisation.

I know that its Africa - but is it SOuth Africa at the 'Cradle of Humankind' or Tanzania at the 'Cradle of Man'?

  1. Paleontologists only assume that it is the Rift Valley of Africa because that is where fossils are found.  That is most likely just an accident of geology.   It is likely that humans have been all over Africa and into Eurasia as long as there have been humans even if the definition of human extends to early members of the genus Homo over 2 million years ago.


  2. More like the lake Awash or Afar region of Ethiopia. This area seems to have the oldest anatomically modern human remains in it (Homo Idaltu) and a lot of older Homo remains, like Afarensis.
