  1. Did you know that you are wrong?

There are laws concerning income taxes and they are codified as Title 26 of the U.S. Code.  Title 26 is known as "prima facie" law or evidence of the actual laws passed by Congress.  You can read Title 26 at http://www.law.cornell.edu/uscode/26/usc...  or at http://uscode.house.gov/download/title_2...  or at http://www.access.gpo.gov/uscode/title26...

To read the actual laws passed by Congress, you have to look in the U.S. Statutes at Large.  Most of these are not available online.  However, you can read them at most Federal Depository Libraries.  http://www.gpoaccess.gov/libraries.html

In case you don't think Title 26 is law, here is what the courts have to say...

In Bilger v. United States, 87 AFTR2d Par. 2001-468, No. CIV F 00-6486 OWW JLO (U.S.D.C. E.D.Ca. 1/9/2001), the court stated, "In his opposition, Plaintiff asserts that ‘Title 26 U.S.C. (including section 6321) has not been enacted into positive law, and is not the law, but is only prima facie evidence of the law.’ ... Congress’ failure to enact a title into positive law has only evidentiary significance and does not render the underlying enactment invalid or unenforceable. See 1 U.S.C. section 204(a). ‘Like it or not, the Internal Revenue Code is the law’. [Citations omitted] Plaintiff’s positive law argument is without merit."

If you think wages are not income because they are not a gain, that is also wrong.  A gain is the difference between the amount for which something is sold and the amount that was paid for it.  For example, if you find a diamond ring in your backyard that is worth $4,000 and you sell it to your neighbor for $3,000, you have a $3,000 gain.  You paid nothing for the ring and you sold it for $3,000.  If your neighbor then sells the ring to a jewelry store for $3,500.  Your neighbor has a gain of $500 ($3,500 - $3,000).  It is the same for your labor.  You paid nothing for your labor.  So, if you sell your labor to your employer for $25 an hour and you work for 40 hours, when you get paid for that work, you have a gain of $1,000.

Here is what the courts say on that issue.

In Lucas v. Earl, 281 U.S. 111, 114 (1930), the court states, "There is no doubt that the statute could tax salaries to those who earned them...."

In United States v. Connor, 898 F.2d 942, 943-944 (3rd Cir. 1990), the court states, "Every court which has ever considered the issue has unequivocally rejected the argument that wages are not income."

Face it.  There is a law concerning income taxes and that law states we must pay taxes on our wages.

  2. The federal tax laws are contained in the Internal Revenue Code, also known as Title 26 of the United States Code, which is the compilation of laws passed by the Congress.

The Internal Revenue Code is the law that requires people to pay taxes (and yes, the Internal Revenue Code is law).

    Look here:

    http://docs.law.gwu.edu/facweb/jsiegel/P...

All of the laws passed by the legislative branch of the US Government are published in the US Code.  This is available online for anyone to browse in a very easy to navigate website.  If you search under Title 26 and follow the links, the law clearly outlines exactly who and what taxes are imposed by law on people residing in the US.  Here is the link:

  3. MEA...

You've been listening to -- and obviously falling for -- entirely too much right-wing tripe.  The other respondents have quite competently established that this persistent, ill-informed urban legend is false.

But it sure is appealing, isn't it?  Just argue that the law doesn't exist and -- Voila! -- it's gone!  I'm feeling better already!
