I have 2004 Nissan maxima, automatic, that starts off on like 3rd gear (really heavy and slow to start driving). Transmission has been replaced and I'm getting this code obd-II reader: P0734. I'm heading towards changing out the Transmission Control Module but I'm not sure where it is. Or do you guys think i should check something else out before doing that?

  1. which trans? look on thee door jamb Vin# sticker RE4F043 or the 5 speed RE5F22A.... Either trans a P0734 code is a fourth gear function code. Service manual states. That code is set when the trans cannot be shifted into 4th gear even though the electrical circuit is good. Probable causes shift solenoid A solenoid B line pressure Clutch pack wear or a hydraulic pressure leak that controls the 4th clutch. You do not have a Transmission control module problem. When the trans was changed did you also replace the radiator? Bits and pieces of the last transmission could have been lodged in the oil cooler in the radiator and that can ruin a replacement transmission. You can also replace the in radiator cooler with a aftermarket trany cooler.
