Where is the World Wide Web based?

Is there a fancy central computer or is there no physical place where all sites are stored?

  1. That's actually the first time I've seen this question. the answer is it is spread out. for example i host my own website which everyone is able to visit at: http://www.steves-hd.com. That's hosted on my server, there are probably millions of servers around the world and they store little bits of information. i don't know if you've ever heard of RuneScape but they have about 300 servers throughout the world.

  2. the world wide web is as its name states, world wide. There are several computers that "talk" to each other to form a "address list" These computers are called the DNS (Domain Name Server) to associate WWW alpha names to IP address's which will point to a specific PC somewhere in the world.
