  1. It all depends on what you are looking for. golf? beaches etc

  2. For easy access to/from the UK I'd recommend:

    - Brittany

    - Normandy, Caen.

    - Le Havre

    - Calais (there are better places though).

As for cheapest, I'm not sure as I've never looked into buying in France. However I would recommend you go on a short holiday to the above places, I have been to Brittany, Normandy, Caen and Calais, along with Nantes and a few regions in the south.

Here are some links to French homes for sale:

    Nantes:

As for the best areas to buy in, Brittany is so scenic and beautiful, whereas Normandy's beaches aren't as clear BUT it is a very historical region, which is why it attracts so many American & English tourists. The weather in Normandy is similar to England, but there is SO much to do, so many museums to visit.

Calais is exactly like England, a lot of Brits go over there to get cheap alcohol, property seems to be slightly cheaper, but Calais isn't the best place to move to.

I'd highly recommend the Nantes area, it isn't close to the UK, but it is very sunny, gorgeous beaches, great shopping facilities and friendly people.

    Good luck with the move.

  3. Fastest growing area is Languedoc. It is cheaper than Paris and Provence, Cote d'Azur but has Mediterranean weather and lifestyle.

It is also easy to get to (60+ low cost flight routes). These days the flight and car rental costs are less than the ferry, fuel, tolls and hotel costs of driving down. And you are on the beach in 2 hrs !
