Hi, I'm moving up from Devon to start a job with British Airways next month and need advice on where is nice to live in the area? Ideally somewhere on a tube line and with plenty of pubs and amenities, I've been recommended Acton but I'm unsure how long the journey to Heathrow would be from there? Any advice will help!

  1. Consider Hays and Northolt. Dont be put off by negative reviews about Northolt, cuz they were all in the Past. From Northolt it will take 20 minutes by bus to get to Heathrow. By car it is probably less.

Northolt has Central Line Tube and one direct 24 hour bus "140" to Heathrow and plenty of Pubs and restaurants and supermarkets.

If you have enough money then consider Hammersmith, there is plenty of life in Hammersmith.

  2. Hayes, Hounslow, Southall, Uxbridge. All three places are great areas to live in as they all provide shopping centres aswell as easy access to public transport- bus and train. Living in Hayes means it only takes 10-20 mins to get to Heathrow by bus. Also there are local pubs and shops.

In Uxbridge however, you will have access to buses and trains- piccadilly line, as the train station is located inside the shopping centre which is so convinient and again short bus journeys to and from Heathrow (all areas i have suggested do). All four areas are of diverse culture and all have easy access to public transport as well as well known high street shops. It's also easy to get to Uxbridge if in Hounslow, Hayes or Southall.

There are also coach stations which means you may be able to get coaches to go back to Devon if need be.

Overall all four areas are great to live in- they provide high street shops, a variety of restauraunts, as well as pubs, easy access to public transport (trains, coaches and buses), short distances to Heathrow (you'll notice there will be alot of aeroplanes in this area) you're spoilt for choice!

  3. If it has to be somewhere on a Tube line, then somewhere like Acton (or Ealing) wouldn't be too bad. Acton Town to Heathrow on the Underground takes about 20 minutes, and it's direct - on the Piccadilly line.

If you don't mind changing trains, or catching a bus, then the likes of Richmond and Teddington would be good choices. They're both on the river, and have plenty of pubs. I'd say Richmond is the livelier of the two, but the pubs in Teddington are a bit nicer.

Or you could head the other way and look at Uxbridge or Windsor or somewhere like that. I don't know Windsor at all, but I can tell you Uxbridge has loads of pubs, shops, and is also on the Piccadilly line - albeit a different branch to Heathrow.

    Anyway, hope this helps...
