I want to go to Rome for a weekend but I'm having problems finding the best place to stay. Can someone please tell me where the most central area is or the place that's best to stay at where it's easy to get too other places of interest - should I stay at Vatican City or Trevi or near the Coliseum? Any cheap hotel recommendations would be gratefully appreciated!

  1. I live near Rome, NY? Does that help you? have a nice day.

  2. The Hotel King, Via Sistina street/road (not sure) near Piazza di Spagna. Walk to Trevi Fountain and Spanish Steps in 10 minutes.

  3. Here you go...

The area around Termini station is perfectly fine.Keep your money in a money belt out of sight or in your front pocket and walk with purpose and you will have no problems. Always beware of your surroundings. You must be careful in any place in the world.

If you plan to use the station, don't hesitate to stay nearby

Here are a couple of hotels that I can recommend:

    St. Moritz Hotel

    51 Via Nazionale

    Rome 00184 Italy

    Tel.+ 39 06-48-68-90

The Hotel St.Moritz is a 3-star accommodation located in the centre of Rome in a beautiful building dating back to the 19th century

    Breakfast included

Price range 65 Euros to 250 Euros all year around

    Hotel Italia

It is situated in the heart of historic Rome. Near the Spanish Steps, Fountain of Trevi, Termini station and the Colosseum. It located 3 blocks from Termini station. Breakfast included

Price Range 50 Euros to 200 Euros

I personally have stayed at the Hotel St. Moritz and Hotel Italia. I haven't stayed at the Hotel St. Moritz in many years. I like the location of the Hotel Italia and the staff is very friendly and helpful. I have stayed there several times. The hotel is not fancy, but I really enjoyed staying there.

***Some words of advice: Read reviews on the hotels, B&B's etc, where you are thinking of staying.

    Additional information

***The 110 Bus--This is a good way to get an overview of the city, but don't expect a full blown tour...the attractions are highlighted using a prerecorded message in several different languages (they provide headphones). I would only recommend this bus if you're nervous about getting around the city on your own. I would suggest using this tour on the first day you arrive so you can get an overview of the city and try to get your bearings. You can buy the tickets at Termini station. The cost is about 13 euros for a hop on/hop off tour or 8 euors for a non stop tour.

***It is well worth it. I rode the 110 Bus to get around the city when the distances to walk were too far. It is cheaper than a cab/taxi ride. You can get on and off all day.

  8. First have a blast.  I had so much fun in Italy.  I stayed near the Termini, which seems to have a bad reputation, but I had no problems.  Keep in mind many of the cities minorities live in this area, so there is a stigma attached.  It was the Hotel Mariano.  It was inexpensive, by far the largest hotel room we had in Italy.  We were in room 306 and it was completely remodeled.  I really liked this hotel because it was about 3 blocks to the Termini.  I can't say for sure, but I believe every bus ends up here at one point during the day and the subways are below.  It took us less than 10 minutes to get anywhere from here.  Plus it was very reasonalby priced.  Okay, now the downside.  The staff at this hotel was proabably the least helpful that we encountered.  They weren't rude, but at other hotels we stayed in Italy the staff was very kind, generous and accomadating.  The staff here was much more like what you would expect at a chain hotel.  And the breakfast was not that great.  We had become accostomed to really great breads, fruit, juice and such.  This was very basic.  But for the location by the Termini and the price, it definitely fit the bill.
