I grew up in Los Angeles and Orange County, currently live in San Francisco (love it!). I am bi-racial (korean & irish mix), long brown hair, hazel eyes, tan skin and fairly attractive. I love moving from place to place, and I am very easy going. I am a fashion and dance student, love water and winter sports (surfing, snowboarding), nice weather, reggae/ rock music, good food, good wine, and great fun and outgoing party people. Where should I move? Does anyone have connections? (i don't know anyone living in Australia)

  1. Winter sports in Australia are a good distance from anywhere that's a busy place to live (and also a LONG way from anywhere good for surfing). So certainly doable for a few weeks of the year break.

Personally for surfing I'd suggest area's like the Gold Coast or Sunshine Coast in Queensland. Gold Coast will have the better nightlife, great beaches and people etc. Also you will have no trouble blending in there either.

  2. Perth has the weather that California claims to have!

It does NOT snow any were in western Australia so no winter sports.

Perth is extremely laid back, and very friendly people.

Perth has some of the best surfing beaches in the world.

    Sunniest Australian city.

    Fremantle for shopping and culture.

    North suburbs for beaches.

    North bridge for night life.

West Australia's south west wine region.. with chocolate and ice cream factory's, many winery's and great foods.

Where ever you move you will love it!

  3. San Fransisco is most similar to Sydney of the Australian cities, and I think Sydney would be your best choice. It's very multicultural, has a real buzz of energy, great food, sport (including surfing and all the other water sports), music etc. Winter sports are accessible from Sydney, although it's a fair bit of a drive.

Melbourne is cooler and more arty than Sydney, and not quite as 'Californian'. I don't think it would be as good a choice based on your description. You would probably also like the Gold Coast, but there certainly wouldn't be any winter sports there.

  4. i live in alice springs

    its boring.

don't move to australia, you'll be disappointed

  5. I say either Sydney or Melbourne (although I'm biased towards Sydney =P) because:

    - Sydney's got amazing beaches (although Qld does as well)

    - we're definitely more multicultural and accepting

    - great seasonal weather (you can go snowboarding in winter up at perisher in sydney =P)

    - clubbing and parties in sydney is awesome =PP

and we've got food from everywhere here =D so come on down! =D (there's not much to do in Adelaide!)

  6. Ignore the dumb dude above me...anyone who would choose to live in the centre of Australia for no good reason can't be the brightest tool in the shed !

You have heaps of choices but if it's sun , surf & sand you are after you can't beat the Sunshine State...Queensland ! From the glitzy Gold Coast inthe south to the tropical islands in the north we have the best climate , nicest beaches & friendliest natives in the country. If you want more info just email me...

  7. I'm a big fan of Adelaide in South Australia and Perth in Western Australia, personally.

Both have pleasant, Mediterranean climates (especially Perth), are reasonably affordable (especially Adelaide - Perth is getting more expensive...) and are a good, friendly size of 1-2 million each...

Winter sports are a bit harder to come by in Australia - you'll want to be somewhere you can get to the eastern areas for that (our mountain ranges for snow!). Food and wine wise, Adelaide or Melbourne are good choices - though be warned, Melbourne is horrendously expensive to live in now.

Overall, I really recommend Adelaide. It has the good balance between a pleasant, warm climate, easy access to other cities (Perth is just a bit far out of the way), good fun population (especially areas like Glenelg) and a modern atmosphere.

I have a few connections around about the place, so feel free to send me an email and I'll see if I can help a bit more! :-)

  8. You can meet plenty of people when you get here. Go to the backpackers hostel in Sydney to start and meet up with a few like minded people . You will be handy to the snowy mountains. thats if it's winter here because Australia only has snow activities down South in Winter. once you have had enough of the cold head for Queenslands gold Coast where the beaches and night life would suit them maybe you could head up to Airlie beach and Cairns for some great island hopping snorkling diving sailing but only go North into the tropics between April and September if you want to avoid the sticky heat and rain

  9. If you want a more laid back lifestyle i'd move to perth.. really friendly relaxed atmosphere there.

    Melbourne has great shopping

and Qld (gold coast) is great if you love then sun and the beach

I wouldn't reccomended anything in central australia (alice springs) or South Australia, not much to do there either.

If you love snowboarding, the only place you'd possibly be able to do it is in canberra in winter.. only place which gets some form of snow.
