We're going on a European trip by car and our first stop is Amsterdam.I know that's the worst kind of transportation in big cities, especially in Amsterdam, but we don't have other choice. Our hotel offers us its private parking for the price of 20 euro per day.Is that s good deal?

  1. Yes, it's a good deal.

Parking in a parking garage in Amsterdam Center can be € 25 to € 50,- a day!

Driving in Amsterdam can be very chaotic bacause of all the cyclists, trams, cars and pedestrians, so you need to be a expierienced driver.

  2. a bit outside of amsterdam , just under the "arena" stadium there's a big parking which costs only a 5 euro's a day, or maybe 5,50 and they even give you the metro tickets into town. it's very easy to get there because on the "highway" there are great signs "transferium"

  3. Actually compared with parking it on the street (and taking into account if it is really a private carpark) then actually €20 is not a bad deal in my opinion

e.g. picking a public parking garage in the centre at random e.g. Waterlooplein - it is €46 per 24 hours http://www.bereikbaar.amsterdam.nl/live/...

You can get it cheaper by the "Park & Ride" system (apparently €6 per day, but this means leaving your car outside of the centre) - I have never done this so can't say about the pros and cons either way http://www.amsterdam.nl/parkeergebouwen/...

Parking in Amsterdam is nothing short of a nightmare (and driving isn't much better), so you would be better off leaving the car in the hotel car park and getting around by (rented) bike, walking or public transport

The only alternative, ie free parking, would be to park it well outside Amsterdam beyond the range of permit or paid parking e.g. Amstelveen.  However, unless you know the area well, a car with foreign plates sitting in one place for a few days will stand out.

Therefore I would go with the hotel parking.  See if you can book it in advance to make sure it is not full when you get there
