  1. I have several friends whose past origins are from Trinidad, and they live and work in Montreal area. However, whether this is the best place in Canada for you is not something I can state. I am not from Trinidad, and the people I know are not dedicated to retaining their culture...They prefer to be known as Canadian first, a person with roots in the east indies second.

However, my understanding is that there is also a large Trinidadian community in Ontario. So if English is preferred, I would probably look at the Toronto area. If French is acceptable, consider Montreal or Ottawa area.

The webpage I found may help influence your decision. It gives some history and insight into Canada's Trinidadian community.

  2. Depending on your field, Atlantic Canadian provinces may jump over themselves to bring you here. Doctors, for example. But a university education could well get you into Newfoundland or Prince Edward Island as a provincial sponsored immigrant. Both are affordable places to live, very safe, and very accomodating. But there are very few minorities and immigrant populations in both.

Check out the provincial government websites. Search "immigration" at www.gov.nl.ca or www.gov.pe.ca

  3. It depends on what you are looking for.  If you are looking for others who are from Trinidad most likely you need to move to a large city - probably Toronto, Montreal or Vancouver would be your best option.  If that is not your first priority, then you may want to consider other areas that have opportunities in your field of expertise.  Depending on your quallifications, there are many professional vacancies in various parts of Canada.  Often the more rural areas offer excellent quality of life for families, and much more affordable housing than in the large cities.  If you are interested in a unique experience, consider parts of Atlantic Canada.  Another option is the Arctic - I know of a family from Haiti currently working in the Arctic and loving it.  We would really need a little more information to be able to give you better answers.  Best of luck with your plans.
