  1. you have to be extremely intelligent or be inbred aristocracy to get into oxbridge but manchester has a good uni and archeology section and has the 2nd biggest museum holding fossils after the britisn museum in london

I've been wondering the same thing as you.  I live in the USA, but am considering attending a university in the UK for college, at which at want to study archaeology and/or anthropology.  I've mainly been looking at the University of Manchester because it's a big school and offers a lot, but I really don't know what the best school for the subject is.  I'm sorry that this wasn't terribly helpful, but I felt like answering because clearly we're in similar predicaments.  =P
